Trimester 2 STEAM Middle School Elective

Computer Programing

The process of developing and implementing various sets of instructions to enable a computer to do a certain task. These instructions are considered computer programs and help the computer to operate smoothly.

Computer science is one of the fastest growing career fields right now and is not showing any signs of slowing down.  In this elective students are exposed to coding through multiple activities and online resources ultimately creating a project with their gained knowledge.  Most of the coding done is in the form of block coding which is a simplistic form of giving instructions.

This class is a basic skills class supplying the building blocks and helping students decide if they like coding or not.

In the future, we hopefully will be applying this to robots as well.

CODE.org

Students used code.org to learn the basics of coding through problem-solving games.  As a summery project, students created an "all about me" app demonstrating there ability to use the block coding in the website.
